St Louis commuter bike center to be completed by fall

According to a KSDK story, the long-planned St Louis commuter bicycle center is moving forward and Mayor Slay's office expects it will be open by fall.

The commuter bike center will utilize 1,300-square feet of the ground floor of the 1011 Locust Street building, which is owned by Loftworks. The building is also two blocks away from a Metrolink station.

The St Louis Post-Dispatch adds:

Mayor Slay is calling the center the first of its kind in the region.

"We are building a city that provides an attractive way of life. After World War II, the car was a symbol of freedom. For some people today, it is just the opposite," Slay said in a statement.

The St Louis Business Journal adds:

“The biggest thing that impedes people from biking to work is that they don’t want to be all sweaty for work,” said Kara Bowlin, Slay’s press secretary.

Officials hope the new bike center will change all that.

“After World War II, the car was a symbol of freedom. For some people today, it is just the opposite,” Slay said in a statement.

The commuter bike center will be similar to facilities in Chicago, Washington DC, Denver, and several other cities.

This will be the first commuter bicycle station in Missouri, as far as we know.
