Bicycling superheroes ride across Missouri
This interesting group of cyclist rode across Missouri--in their superhero costumes and stopping to do works of service everywhere they went--in 2008:
It's Turkey Day '08 and I'm thankful I finished this journal...but more importantly, I'm thankful for BICYCLING SUPERHEROES, particularly this group pictured. Maybe you've seen them...wheels spinning, capes flapping in the wind, spreading goodwill. Maybe you've heard about them through the counter-culture grapevine. I first found them last winter on the pages of
Bicycle superheroesI'd been reading my partner's back issues while soaking in the tub and I saw a photo of Rabbi Yikes lifting a bicycle over her head in triumph. She was dressed in a rainbow-colored SH costume and hot blue wig pulled into two ponytails. The article described how the 'founder' designed a SH outfit to wear on a bike trip across the country where he offered his help to people along the way. That was 2000. I had to go.
They weren't that easy to find...and I'm a pro internet surfer. That's because there is no web site or email, little publicity, no non-profit status. They believe all their energy should go into the mission...pure effort, doing good. During several days of searching and many deadends, I found a tiny bit of info about these epic do-gooders in silly outfits on bicycles.
