The 35 mile Frisco Highline Trail follows a former railroad line all the way from Springfield to Bolivar. "It turned 20 years old this year, and we want to kind of crank it up a notch and make this a regional draw for tourism and people from outside the area as well as residents that live here. It's a great treasure right in our own back yard," says Terry Whaley, Executive Director of Ozark Greenways. Ozark Greenways would like to make improvements, but sadly, they're too often playing catch-up. Over about the past month, trail users in Polk County have noticed several spots with deliberate damage. A bench was splintered, and another is completely gone. "It was put in with concrete, so it wasn't like it was going to walk away or blow away, but it was cut off at ground level and somebody took it," Whaley says.
