Rejecting the idea that bigger is better, the city of Battlefield hopes to attract businesses — and customers — by scaling back plans for a highway running through town. . . .

The shift would allow new businesses to be built closer to the road, with easier access and better connections to cross streets. It also could mean a slower trip for drivers just passing through the town, which at about 6,000 residents has the third largest population in Greene County.

The request, which must be approved by the board of the Ozarks Transportation Organization, isn't a typical one. More often cities ask to increase the classification of important routes . . .
