The City of St. Louis is working to make travel safer and more convenient for cyclists, but the changes could impact drivers in the area.

Road crews painted bike lanes on Union Boulevard between Lindell Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther Kong Drive Wednesday (March 18), getting one step closer to completing Phase Three of Bike St. Louis.

Bike St. Louis is a partnership between the city and Great Rivers Greenway to update 60 miles of existing bikeways and add about 40 miles of new street bike lanes bringing the total number of bike-friendly city miles to 135.

Emma Klues, Communications Manager with Great Rivers Greenway, says research show St. Louis is ranked 15th in the country for car-free commuting and has the seventh fastest growing bicycle community.
