Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department personnel were busy Thursday morning installing a new sidewalk along the south side of Warren Barrett Drive, next to Ringer Park.

The installation of the new extended sidewalk is part of a multi-phase project in the area east of the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

But so many communities and so many roads and streets across Missouri lack this basic, needed infrastructure that it is a reason to celebrate whenever a missing section is added or brought up to current standards.

The Missouri Department Health reports that nearly 50% of Missourian have *no sidewalks at all* in their neighborhoods. This is a situation that must be improved, one sidewalk at a time.
