American Trails Magazine, a national publication that highlights hiking, biking and riding trails throughout the Nation, has recognized Missouri as a “Best Trails State” recognizing the contributions made through the improvement and promotion of trails throughout our state’s communities and counties. . . .

We in St. James know only too well the value of having locally available trails for individuals and families in our community. The St. James hiking & biking trail extends from the west side of town, beginning in Nelson Hart Community Park, traveling along Historic Route 66, cruising through residential neighborhoods and our industrial park, and joining up with the newly constructed Forest City Mountain Biking Trail before ending on the campus of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri. Other hiking and biking opportunities available in Phelps County include the City of Rolla’s trail system, the trails throughout Maramec Spring Park and the adjourning Woodson K. Woods Conservation Area. Of course, there are dozens, if not hundreds of miles of paved county and state roads that, with their relatively low traffic count, provide excellent biking opportunities.
