Greg Siple has photographed more than 4,600 exuberant, exhausted long-distance bike tourists from his headquarters at the Adventure Cycling Association in Missoula, Montana. He started in 1982—six years after he helped organize the cross-country Bikecentennial ride—and today his black-and-white portrait collection speaks volumes about how much cross-country touring has changed over the years. Here are a few favorites from the collection.
