City crews installed on Friday morning signs explaining the new layout of Chestnut Street between Fourth and 20th streets downtown, a layout that now includes parking-protected bike lanes.
Such lanes, the first in the city, use parked cars and flexible posts to separate the cycling lane from driving lanes. A striped buffer painted on the street also creates space between the opening doors on parked cars and the bike lane.
