Brush clearing begins along Rock Island line; rails after Jan. 1 - Gasconade County Republican: Gasconade County
Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:
A&K Railroad Materials, Inc., of Salt Lake City, Utah, will be clearing brush along the Rock Island railroad corridor now through March 31 in preparation to remove the tracks between Argyle and Freeburg, said Rocky Smith, vice president of field operations for A&K.
“We can only do tree removal on that 25 mile stretch of line during that time because the brown bat, which is a protected species, may be nesting during the other seven months,” Smith said during a telephone interview.
Two crews are already working to clear some of the better parts of the railroad line, one near Eugene and the second east of Owensville. However, tracks may be removed at the company’s convenience.
A&K will be working closely with the trail group, Ameren and landowners during the deconstruction of the line.
