Little Blue Trace trail to be extended southwest in Jackson County | Independence Examiner

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Today the trail runs about 17 miles along the Little Blue River, mostly in Independence. The north end is at Blue Mills Road. [The south end is at] Lee’s Summit Road.

The extension goes a little farther west and will leave the trail 11.7 miles shy of the ultimate goal at Longview Lake. . . .

[S]omeday a rider could start at Blue Mills Road and – over several days – ride all the way to the St. Louis area, coming out at the east end of the Katy Trail a few miles northeast of St. Charles.

MoBikeFed comment: This trail can potentially connect with planned Missouri River trails to the north and the Rock Island Trail near the south end. That will make it part of an eventual statewide trail system anchored by the 450-mile Katy/Rock Island system and connecting the Kansas City area to the St. Louis area, and many points in between.
