Markers Aim to Help St. Joseph Trail System Users | KQTV

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Help is coming for walkers and bikers as they navigate through the 28 miles of trails throughout St. Joseph. . . .

Placed every quarter mile along each trail, the markers indicate which trail system users are on and their distance traveled. They markers were also placed as users can sometimes get lost.

"These trails can criss-cross and they intersect so occasionally if you are not familiar with this part of town you can get disoriented," Kempf said.

MoBikeFed comment: Wayfinding on trails is very much overlooked. Just the same as the road and highway system, a trail system becomes much more usable when users can easily find their way around and have some idea of the destinations that various trails reach.

Kudos to St. Joseph for making this important upgrade.

FYI, Columbia Parks and Rec is currently working on a similar wayfinding plan for their trails system.
