15 Foot Flag Protest Ride Apr 9-10 at the Missouri Capitol (Bike/Ped Day @ the Capitol Apr 11) | joplinglobe.com

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

David Rice, an avid cyclist from Republic, said he has never organized a protest in his life.

As a special education paraprofessional, who will be a teacher at Cherokee Middle School next year, he said politics has never been his path.

However, when he read state Rep. Jay Houghton's proposed bill, which would require bicycles to have a 15-foot pole topped by a flag when ridden on county lettered roads, he said something inside of him clicked.

"I'm tired of people treating us like dirt or scum because we choose to do this activity," Rice said in a phone interview.

On April 9 and 10, Rice said he plans to do a total of 500 laps around the Capitol building in protest of "anti-cyclist" legislation. More than 100 cyclists are interested in joining him, he said.

MoBikeFed comment: Rice has organized the ride on the weekend preceding Bicycle & Pedestrian Day at the Capitol, Monday April 11th, 2016.
