Springfield area OTO asks transportation priorities; bike lanes, trails, sidewalks rate 27% of funding according to citizens | News-Leader

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The survey asked, “If you had $100 for transportation, how would you spend it?”

The biggest chunk was for new highway construction, at more than $26. Beyond that, respondents on average wanted to use about $15 for bike lanes and trails, $14 for intersection improvements, $12 for sidewalks and crosswalks and $10 for passenger rail.

Buses, highway operations and traveler information rounded out the rest of the proposed spending.

MoBikeFed comment: MoDOT did a similar survey some years back with similar results.

Actual spending on bicycle, pedestrian, and trails projects is well below 10% - nowhere near the 27% citizens would like to see.
