Washington planning to extend riverfront trail to the west - The Missourian

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The Washington City Council approved a resolution Monday night backing the city’s pursuit of a grant for the new riverfront trail. . .

The grant, if awarded to the city, would provide $150,000 for the city to use to construct the westward expansion of the riverfront trail. . . .

Dunkle said future phases would be completed as funds become available. The future phases would connect both the current trail with the new trail, connecting the new trail to the parks system and other additions.

The city acquired the property in 2015. . . . The purchases gave the city land along the Missouri River, from South Point west to St. John’s Creek.

MoBikeFed comment: These riverfront trail segments are beautiful in their own right, and are likely to become part of the final connection between the Rock Island and Katy Trails. The Rock Island corridor passes just to the south of Washington, and the city and Missouri State Parks have been exploring options for bringing the trail connection to Washington, where it can join further planned trail connections that will take riders to the Katy Trail, across the river and north of Washington.
