$15K gift to help low-income residents with public transit in the West Plains area - West Plains Daily Quill

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

UnitedHealthcare insurance group has donated $15,000 to Missouri Rural Health Association (MRHA) to support HealthTran, its transportation programming for low-income families which serves the Quill circulation area.

MRHA received the grant for its HealthTran initiative to help address transportation issues for Medicaid and Medicare dual-eligible plan participants in 10 rural south-central Missouri counties. The grant will fund direct transportation support for approximately 100 people who are unable to access Missouri’s Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) program and do not have financial resources for health-related transportation.

MoBikeFed comment: Every county in Missouri has public transit needs. In rural counties, these are mostly un-met.

Similarly, all counties have residents who depend on bicycling and walking for basic transportation. In many cases, these needs are unmet as well.

Kudos to UnitedHealthcare for taking one small step to help improve this situation.
