Dignitaries, partners, local citizens, and youth will participate in the formal dedication of the newly erected Powder Mill Bridge, the longest pedestrian span across an interstate highway, dedicated to the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California National Historic Trails. The bridge and adjoining trail segments are a portion of what will one day be the retracement trail for the three national historic trails, extending 40 miles from Wayne City Landing on the Missouri River in Sugar Creek, Missouri, to Gardner Junction in Gardner, Kansas. The new bridge over I-435 will greatly enhance the quality of life in the metro area by enabling the surrounding urban populace of all ages to utilize the trails for pleasure, exercise, and commuting to work via walking or bicycling.
