OneSTL - Project: Save the Meramec River Route 66 Bridge

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The Route 66 Meramec River/Times Beach Bridge is located in St. Louis County (MO) near Eureka in Route 66 State Park. The bridge was constructed in the early 1930s to support the highway we know today as “Route 66.” Today, the bridge is a centerpiece for Route 66 State Park. It attracts international interest from those who travel Route 66 and is a viable component of future recreational plans for a bike/pedestrian crossing. In January 2016, Missouri State Parks agreed to become the bridge’s new owner; however, the agency requires an endowment of $1 million. Our project is to raise a $575,000 to support the endowment request. We must meet this goal no later than December 31, 2016. If we fail to do so, MoDOT will demolish the bridge in early 2017.
