Family and friends gathered at the site where Bapi Gupta was hit. He was crossing the street on S. Broadway in front of the Broadway Oyster Bar when he was struck by a driver. Gupta died a week later in the hospital. He was 50.

Close to 100 gathered Thursday evening to not just remember Gupta, but also talk about changes that have been made on S. Broadway since his death. Those changes include a crosswalk, a flashing light, and signs.

Gupta’s family said his death, as well as the death of Amber Wood—who was killed at the very same location in another hit and run accident—galvanized St. Louis to make the streets safer for pedestrians.
