The Johnson County Spirit Trail Coalition could award the bid in September to build the trail from Warrensburg to Knob Noster State Park.

Presiding Commissioner Bill Gabel said the coalition could advertise for bids in late August or early September.

“We’re very close to being 100 percent ready (to take bids),” he said. . . .

Design work – on the last phase of the trail through Knob Noster State Park and the bridge over Clear Fork Creek in the park – has been completed and approved, Gabel said, but construction funds have not been approved.

“We’re just waiting for funding,” he said.

Sen. David Pearce will contact Missouri State Parks Director Bill Bryan to make the case for funding the final leg of the trail, which will end at Whiteman Air Force Base, Gabel said.

“I feel good about the way things are coming together,” he said.
