Police look for driver that hit and killed pedestrian in Independence; light-colored 2013-15 Dodge Avenger | fox4kc.com

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Police are trying to find a light-colored sedan that they believe hit a 38-year-old man Friday night in the area of US 40 and River Blvd, and then left the scene, leaving the man to die.

The man was walking westbound on the north shoulder of US 40 when he was struck by the westbound vehicle. The vehicle, which is believed to be a 2013-2015 Dodge Avenger, left the scene westbound on US 40 Hwy. It was described as a light-colored sedan. Police say the driver's side mirror will be missing as well as the driver's side headlight lens.

MoBikeFed comment: This area is a serious pedestrian problem area, with high pedestrian demand and traffic, yet no sidewalks.

MoDOT has been adding sidewalks and crosswalks to portions of Hwy 40 in this area, so perhaps the River Blvd section will be next.
