More than a year after a 32-year-old Kansas City man was hit and killed by a car while riding his bicycle, another Kansas City man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for his death.

According to the court documents, Joseph Lasala, 31, is also charged with leaving the scene of the accident on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Witnesses told police that the driver of the silver Lexus was driving eastbound on Independence Ave., while Anthony Saluto, 32, was riding his bike westbound on Independence Ave. A witness said the car was going fast, veered into the westbound lanes and struck Saluto.

MoBikeFed comment: Evidence in the case indicates that Lasala was exceeding the speed limit, driving far on the wrong side of the road, and was most likely driving impaired, with evidence of numerous illegal drugs in his system.
