According to an update from Greg Harris, MoRIT executive director, the next 12 months will be critical for the trail.

“The first 47 miles of Rock Island Trail State Park will open in the next 67 days,” he said.

Additionally, Missouri State Parks will be given the next 144 miles of fully salvaged corridor in late 2017 for future development as a hiking and biking trail.

The city of Belle has signed an agreement with Ameren to take interim responsibility for the mile of corridor within its city limits.

When the 144-mile corridor is transferred from Ameren to the state of Missouri in late 2017, Belle’s interim agreement will terminate. The state of Missouri will get the next 144 miles of corridor for Rock Island Trail State Park that already has one mile of trail built.
