The Forest Lake Area Trail System steering committee is reaching out to the community to help with the next phase of the trail project.

The Forest Lake Area Trail System steering committee celebrated a $147,000 grant it received and kicked off its capital campaign for Phase 3.1 of the trail on Friday at Maxwell’s in downtown Kirksville.

FLATS is an effort to create a trail system that connects Kirksville to Thousand Hills State Park. In April 2015, the group officially completed the first phase of the project, a .6-mile trail that connects the state park’s dining lodge area to Campground 2.
