Americans support greater funding for transit, bicycling, and walking by a huge margin | Rails-to-Trails Conservancy

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Though some in Congress have argued that the federal government should not support walking and biking, this sentiment is out of step with American voters.

Almost four times as many likely 2016 voters favor increasing or maintaining current levels of federal investment in walking and biking paths as decreasing them (74 percent to 19 percent). . . .

When asked to distribute $100 of taxes on transporta-
tion, voters on average allocated:

- $42.20 to maintain and create roads and highways
- $30.70 to expand and improve public transportation
- $26.90 to expand and improve walking and biking paths and sidewalks

MoBikeFed comment: The $26.90 of each $100 transportation the Americans want to spend on walking and bicycling compares with just $1.50 that is actually spent.
