Lathrop MO building several new sidewalk connections - The Clinton County Leader

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

After revamping the sidewalks, lighting and curbing on the main stretch of Oak Street, and replacing key sidewalks near the Lathrop R-II School District, the city will have another major sidewalk project in the near future. Once again using grant funding from the Safe Routes to School program, Lathrop will be replacing the sidewalks on the west side of Center Street (33 Highway) between Oak Street and South Street. Similar projects have been completed on East Street and South Street near the elementary and middle schools in the past. Burns said the initial design is complete and that they are making sure they have all of their easements in order. Once complete they will submit the plans to the Missouri Department of Transportation for review.

The city plans to add a sidewalk connecting the senior citizen housing facility on the south edge of town to the sidewalks near South Street and Center Street. The new sidewalk will cross the old football field on its west edge and will require a pedestrian bridge over the massive ditch north of the field. Burns said the money has been appropriated for the project, but it is essentially on hold, as those who have committed to donating labor for the project have been tied up in other work.

MoBikeFed comment: This type of sidewalk construction is becoming more and more common in Missouri communities, large and small, all around the state.
