Bicycle Route 66 to be officially added to the U.S. National Bicycle Route System

A few years ago, the Adventure Cycling Association mapped Bicycle Route 66 and added it to ACA's national bicycle route system.

For the past two years, we have been working with MoDOT and many other allies across Missouri to take Bicycle Route 66 to the next step: Officially adding it to the U.S. National Bicycle Route System.  Thanks to advocates and supporters all the way up and down USBR 66 in Missouri, MoDOT has submitted the application.

We are anticipating that the official announcement and ribbon-cutting of USBR 66 will be made at the Big BAM opening ceremony in Joplin on Sunday, June 17th.

Next step will be finding the funding to add directional signs to USBR 66 all the way across Missouri--similar to the USBR 76 signs that are already installed on the TransAmerica Trail route through Missouri.

Missouri will be the first state to have its section of USBR 66 officially adopted in the USBR system.
