Joplin: Trail connecting MSSU to nearby businesses is almost finished | KSNF/KODE

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

A new route connecting Joplin students to shopping and entertainment options is nearly finished.

Construction is wrapping up on a walking trail and bridge that creates a new choice for MSSU walkers to head to the Regal Northstar Movie Theater and Northpark Mall.

The path starts on the south side of the Missouri Southern campus and ends near the theater.

The project has been under discussion for years and just started work a few months ago.

MoBikeFed comment: This is one of the small, everyday projects that is now happening regularly all around Missouri. These types of projects are not very expensive (relative to the cost of most transportation projects), and connect local neighborhoods and communities to the places they need to go.

In contrast to major projects like the Katy or Rock Island Trails, they don't usually get a lot of media attention. But a small, improved bicycle and pedestrian connection for students, visitors, and faculty at MSSU to use when they want to visit nearby businesses, walk or bike to and from school, and all the other day-to-day activities in that area, makes a huge difference to the quality of life in that neighborhood.

Kudos to the city, MSSU, and all involved for sticking with an important project all the way to completion.
