Members of the Trail of Tears Association (TOTA) gathered in Springfield, Missouri, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 for the 28th annual National Trail of Tears Association Conference and Symposium.

The Missouri Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association hosted the conference, and Missouri TOTA Chapter President Denise Dowling said it was a chance to share information about routes Cherokee people used to cross Missouri in 1839.

MoBikeFed comment: As part, of our project to create bicycle routes along all of the National Historic Trails in Missouri, we have looked at a potential b cycle route closely following the historic Trail of Tears route across Missouri. It would have many miles of amazing gravel miles and most of the rest on low traffic rural roads.

However, we want to develop the route and accompanying materials in conjunction with members of the Cherokee Nation and with their approval, so we have been waiting for the right opportunity to arise to work together with them.
