Distracted Driving

Improving roadway safety is one of the top priorities in our Vision for Bicycling and Walking--because people bicycle or walk are especially vulnerable to distracted drivers.  So, reducing distracted driving--one of the top causes of motor vehicle injuries and deaths--is one of the top priorities in MoBikeFed's Legislative Platform.

Senate Bill 701: Texting ban
Missouri law currently bans texting while driving for motorists under 21. Current efforts are underway to extend that ban to motorists of all ages. State Senator Ryan McKenna (Jefferson County in suburban St. Louis) is sponsoring SB 701, which is currently in the Senate Transportation Committee.

MBF's lobbyist testified in support SB 701 when it came up for a hearing in the Senate Transportation Committee on January 27th.

How you can support the texting ban:

1. Donate to MBF so we can continue working on your behalf in Jefferson City.

2. Contact Senate Transportation Committee Chair Bill Stouffer (bstouffer@senate.mo.gov or (573) 751-1507) and other Committee members.

4. Come to Capitol Day on February 16th and talk to your legislator face-to-face.

5. Contact your own legislators, and tell them "I support SB 701, which would ban texting while driving."
