KCMO: Cycle in the City
Cycle in The City will transform a portion of Ward Parkway from a motorized thoroughfare to a free, family-friendly open streets festival that encourages urban exploration through bicycling, walking, jogging, skating and playing.
There will be no start or finish lines at Cycle in the City, just a wide -open split- lane boulevard that welcomes people of all ages to explore Kansas City in an innovative, healthy, social and fun environment without the interference of motor vehicle traffic.
WHAT: Free Open-Streets Festival
A family-friendly bike-skate-jog-walk-ride-&-have-fun event
WHO: This event is for you - people of all ages
WHEN: Saturday, May 16th, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE: On Ward Parkway, from Meyer Circle to Gregory Blvd. (71st St) in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri
*63rd Street and Gregory Blvd. will remain OPEN to accommodate automobile traffic*
About Cycle in the City
Cycle in the City is modeled after similar, highly-popular events held in cities around the world, commonly known as Ciclovias. An initiative led by the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department, more information about Cycle in the City is available at www.cycleinKC.com.
What about cars? Critical cross- and side-streets, including 63rd St. and Gregory Blvd. will remain open to automobile traffic, for fast and simple detours around the pedestrian-friendly event. Access to Ward Parkway, between 63rd Street and Gregory Blvd. will be closed starting at 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning, May 16th. State Line Road and Wornall Road will be fully accessible to assist in detour traffic. Ward Parkway will reopen at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Do the Ward Parkway Roll! Are you a bicycle rider, skater, roller, runner or walker? Here’s your chance to try your wheels or feet on the smooth and gently undulating lanes of beautiful Ward Parkway Boulevard! Come one, come all, this event is for everyone.
Life’s Fun in the Slow Lane! Along the roughly two-mile course loop, in the grass and shade of the median, Cycle in the City will feature live music and other creative entertainment, along with food trucks, games, rock climbing, yoga, sports and more!
Bring a Bike or Rent One Free! Is your bike fast, slow, big or short, or made for two? Bring it on! And if you don’t have a bike, Cycle in the City will loan you one for free thanks to some of our friends and partners at the event.
Streets Alive! Modeled after similar, and highly-popular events held in cities around the world, Cycle in the City is a celebration of Kansas City and its vibrant pathways and scenery, with a determined mission of promoting healthy living activities that all citizens can enjoy.
