"Bicycling Is Fun" is a 6-hour class designed to enhance your bicycling knowledge and skills. It will be held starting at 9 a.m. on June 14th, 2003, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located at 2030 Union Road I-55 and Reavis Barracks in South Saint Louis County. It will be taught by Bill Carlson (wfosterc @ aol.com), a League Cycling Instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB). The cost is $20 which includes a Student Road I manual.
The course includes a classroom discussion of the video, Effective Cycling, brake and derailleur adjustment and principles of traffic of traffic law. Using the parking lot the students will learn three emergency maneuvers-the rock dodge, the instant turn and the panic stop.
The afternoon ride will include a lunch stop at Jack-In-The-Box. The 10-mile route will also include a stop at the Gravois/Hampton bus terminal where the students will learn how to put their bicycle on the bus-mounted bicycle rack.
Participants who successfully complete the course, through a written and on-the-road test, will earn a certificate from LAB. LAB promotes bicycling for fun, fitness, and transportation, and works through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America. With a current membership pf 300,000 affiliated cyclists, including 40,000 individuals and 600 organizations, LAB works to bring better bicycling to the your community.
