Iowa bill restricting cyclist is withdrawn; Iowa cycling community comes together

From BikeLeague News:

A bill in the Iowa legislature to ban bicyclists from four-lane roads by which a parallel trail exists was withdrawn by its sponsor on Tuesday, March 23. SF2032, introduced in January by State Senator John Putney, was opposed by Iowa bicyclists. Opponents of the bill found a champion in State Senator Joe Bolckom who worked hard to dramatically improve the bill or have it withdrawn.

The other piece of good news about SF2032 is that the legislation has galvanized the bicycle community in Iowa. A leadership group of Iowa cyclists who opposed the bill are now poised to organize into a new, effective statewide bicycle advocacy group. An initial meeting of the group is scheduled for the evening of April 2 in Des Moines. See BikeIowa.com.
