Celebrate National Bike Month in St. Louis!
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Wed, 05/05/2004 - 9:37pm
From Steve at Trailnet:
Get out your old trusty two-wheeler and relive the days of your youth when you used your bike to get around and had fun at the same time.
• Pedal up to the Bikers Wanted Challenge by using your bike for transportation.
Whether you're dropping off a video, visiting friends, or riding to work, you can WIN one of two awesome Raleigh C40 bicycles from our friends at Sunset Cyclery. Just log your May NON-car trips and miles. Then at the end of May, register at the Trailnet website. Even if you don't want to be entered in the drawing, please register so we can show the region that bicycling is a viable mode of transportation.
• Also don't forget National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 21st. We'll be set up in front of the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park, Lindell and DeBaliviere, from 6:30-8:30 a.m. with a tasty continental breakfast from Companion Baking, and more. The Mayor's office will be presenting a Bike to Work Day proclamation too! Consider setting up a Bike Pool with your coworkers by meeting at the Museum, then doing a group ride to work.
• You know you're thinking about using your bike to get around but have a couple of lingering questions. Just ask an expert Bike Mentor and you'll be on your way! Want to share your wealth of knowledge to encourage new commuters and earn a Bikers Wanted/Drive your bike t-shirt? Just volunteer to be a Bike Mentor by emailing bikerswanted@trailnet.org and list your geographical and/or other area of expertise and we'll post your contact info on our Bike Mentor page.
• Want to encourage commuting at your workplace or other group? Invite Trailnet to present the FREE "Drive Your Bike" PowerPoint presentation developed in partnership with the St. Louis Bike Fed. This one-hour long presentation covers the basics of using your bike for transportation including benefits, equipment, tips and tricks, route selection, and guidance on navigating on the road. Just email bikerswanted@trailnet.org to set up a time.
To learn more about using your bike for transportation, whether its riding to work or just picking up some nutmeg at the market, visit Trailnet's Bikers Wanted section.
Drive your bike!
