October 6th is Bike & Walk to School DAy
Get together with your friends and help change the world! Join more than three million kids from over 3,000 schools in the U.S. and around the world in celebration of Walk and Bike to School Day (Wednesday, October 6), or plan a week of activities (October 4-8). Visit the League of American Bicyclists web site to learn bike safety tips for kids and ask your parents to help form “walking school buses”.
Biking and walking to school on Walk and Bike to School Day can start kids—and their parents and teachers—on a lifelong habit of routine physical activity, something we all need. Reducing car trips to school with walking or bicycling can help reduce air pollution and traffic congestion. Walk and Bike to School Day can also help change community culture by helping people see the need for sidewalks, education programs and traffic calming measures to improve conditions and create environments that are more inviting for everyone, young and old, to bike and walk regularly.
