Springfield will require bicycle parking in new commercial developments

Bruce Adib-Yazdi of Springfield sent the following news item about Springfield's new bicycle parking bill:
The final action of the night (October 4th, 2004) by City Council was approval of a bill outlining new bicycle parking requirements. New commercial developments now must include parking racks to accommodate a set number of bicycles. Several council members spoke in favor of the bill, including Councilman Ralph Manley, who recently returned from a trip to Holland. "I never saw so many bicycles in all my life - people of all ages, even older than me," said Manley who turns 81 this month. "They had adequate places to park them. ... I think it's a step in the right direction."
The Springbike web site has a PDF file giving details of the bicycle parking requirements.
