BikeMO 05--the photos
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Mon, 10/17/2005 - 1:41am
The first annual BikeMO, a ride in support of MoBikeFed and bicycle advocacy in Missouri, was a great success.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who did their jobs very, very well, and of course to the over 100 of you who showed up to ride!
We also want to thank businesses who supported or sponsored the ride: Holt's Summit Plaza Shopping Center, Walmart in Columbia, Mid-Mo Rental in Fulton, Ravine Street Bicycle in Fulton, the Capitol City Cycling Club, Fireworks Supermarket in Kingdom City, 4-C Convenience Store in Readsville, and Tonanzio's Cedar Lake Lodge in New Bloomfield.
The weather was beautiful, the temperatures were in the mid-70s, the leaves were just turning, and route, designed by MOBikeFed board member Caryn Giarratano, was even more beautiful than I imagined (I managed to ride just over half of it myself . . . ).
Sunday's Fulton Sun did a photo feature on the ride. The Columbia Missourian also announced the ride and summarized the Bicycle Safety Legislation that recently passed into law in Missouri, supported by MoBikeFed.
We have uploaded over 100 photos of the BikeMO participants and route--view them online as a list or as a slideshow (requires Flash). We tried to get a photo of every participant. We didn't quite get everyone, but if you were there Saturday, though, take a look--you just might be there.
BikeMO got MoBikeFed's fall fund raising drive off to a great start. The challenge to MoBikeFed members is to match a $10,000 challenge grant from MoBikeFed Executive Director Brent Hugh, by December 31st. (Donate online here.)
Thanks to BikeMO, we're off to a great start--the ride raised approximately $2000 over and above expenses.
