Are gasoline prices subsidized?

According to this commentator, they are--at least $0.25 per gallon in direct subsidies to oil and gas companies, and at least $4.00 per gallon in indirect subsidies.

Do you agree gasoline is subsidized to this degree? Have good data or studies supporting either side of the question?
