Springfield "BikeTown" winners now bicycle to work

Derr hasn't purchased a hybrid or electric car. Instead, he's getting much more basic and gas-free — by bicycling some eight miles from his home in south central Springfield to work at Drury University.

For Derr and seven other Springfield residents, the per-mile cost of relying on two wheels is as close to zero as it's possible to get.

That's because they're riding bikes provided through Ozark Greenways in a home-grown version of Bicycling Magazine's BikeTown USA program.
