Larry O'Reilly rides solo across America

According to the Springfield News-Leader:

Larry O'Reilly was cold and miserable, exhausted from riding his supply-heavy bicycle in back-to-back downpours, sleet, snowstorms and high winds through mountainous Northwestern states.

He experienced a kernel of doubt: Was his personal quest to ride solo across America such a good idea after all?

But O'Reilly, who will be 61 in July, retired in 2003 as COO of his family's company, O'Reilly Auto Parts. He's a community leader, currently serving as chairman of the board for St. John's Hospital and Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Quitting isn't in his nature.

He pushed doubt aside and focused on the problem: Making it through another day of the nearly three-month journey from Oregon to Virginia that, so far, has also helped raise about $130,000 for cancer programs.
