3rd Annual Save the Katy Bridge Festival, Sep 23rd, 2007

According to the Boonville Daily News:

The Save the Katy Bridge Coalition recently announced plans for the 3rd Annual Save the Katy Bridge Festival to be held Sunday, Sept. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Katy Depot in Boonville.

“Three years ago, I would have never dreamed that the Save the Katy Bridge Coalition would be planning a third festival without having a final decision on the destiny of the Katy Bridge” said Paula Shannon, chair of the coalition, “We are quite hopeful that the Boonslick Area and Katy Trail users will have the Katy Bridge to enjoy for many generations to come.”

The group plans a day of celebration with live music, food and family activities. The music will begin at 11:30 a.m. and conclude with a song circle at 5:30 p.m. Musicians performing to show their support of the effort to save the bridge are Tim Buckler & friends, Naked Dave Bandy, Lee Ruth, Michael Cochran, Bartholomew Bean and Ron Morris, Dave Angle, Dave Edwards & Donnie Lee and local favorites Blue Grass Round Up and E-Z Tunes. A schedule of times when the individual artists will be playing can be found on the coalition's website at SavetheKatyBridge.org.

Festival goers can take a break from the music to enjoy other fun and unusual attractions. Visitors can purchase food and drink at the root beer garden where the ever popular root beer float will be on the menu. Car enthusiasts can view antique Mitchell cars including the chuck-wagon. Katy train enthusiasts can tour the Katy Caboose and visit with Katy Conductor JB Garrett. Bicyclists can test their skills on old Victorian bicycles. The popular Katy Kids Station will be back with a working telegraph, face and rock painting, tie-dying, a bridge mosaic and more.

There is no admission charge for the festival. In fact, except for food and

T-shirts the activities are free. Pledges, however, are always welcome either at the festival or anytime at www.savethekatybridge.org.
