Springfield's Bike, Bus, Walk Week Challenge doubles mileage in 2008

Bike Month and Bike to Work Week activities broke records around Missouri this year--and Springfield's Bike, Bus, Walk Week was no exception. According to a Springfield News-Leader article:

Nearly 800 people participating in Ozark Greenways’ Bike, Bus, Walk Week Challenge in May doubled the mileage using alternative transportation over the previous year’s event.

Employees of over 100 businesses and schools participating in the event’s Corporate Challenge, logging 6,000 miles biking, riding buses, walking or carpooling, according to Ozark Greenways.

City Utilities bus drivers gave 531 free rides to cyclists during the weeklong event.

Encouraging more people to walk and bicycle and taking National Bike Month to more cities across Missouri, and making it more succesful in current cities, is one of the primary goals of MoBikeFed's Vision of Active Transportation in Missouri.
