Krug Park: New 7-mile mountain bike trail in St. Joseph

The St Joseph News-Press has an article about a newly restored and vastly extended mountain biking trail in St. Joseph's Krug Park:
The ugly climbs and descents have been converted into switchbacks, which prevents erosion and the uncovering of tree roots. They also re-routed the existing trails to create one seven-mile loop that never overlaps. The routes were flagged in December and were rough cut in the winter months, solely through volunteer work. Lumber for bridges was donated by O.E. Woods and Garfield Lumber Co.

Mr. Hoppe said the design is suitable for the casual rider as well as the serious race enthusiast.

“The more I ride, the more I realize that we are blessed,” Mr. Douglas said. “We have more trails in St. Joseph (about 20 miles) for mountain biking than I know of anywhere around.”
The is a great example of the type of mountain biking trail that is being built around Missouri--often right in the middle of urban areas.
