St. Louis Riverfront Trail closure & detour
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Fri, 08/07/2009 - 8:01pm
A portion of the Riverfront Trail in St. Louis will be closed for some time starting in August 2009 for trail work.
Alternate on-street routes to bypass the closed section are shown on the map below (click map for full-sized version):
The announcement:
KUDOS to Patty Vinyard and the St. Louis Regional Bicycle Federation who took the initiative to create and publicize this alternate route during the trail closure.
Without STLBikeFed's advocacy, the trail would simply have been closed without creating and publicizing a detour--as is happening with the Galloway Creek Greenway in Springfield currently.

The announcement:
A short segment of the Riverfront Trail at Maline Creek will be closed for repairs for about 45 days starting sometime in early August, requiring riders to find alternative routes around the construction, which includes city of St. Louis streets. As of 8 August 2009, the trail is still open but it will be closed and construction will start soon--as soon as the Corps of Engineers releases the work order and can get crews on site.
The Maline Creek location is about 7 miles north of Biddle Street parking lot for the Riverfront Trail and about 4 miles south from the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. The rest of the 11-mile Riverfront Trail remains open and is not affected by the construction.
For questions or concerns about the closure, please call Grace Hill of AmeriCorps at 314-584-6703.
