2011 Katy Trail Ride with Legislators - April 2nd, 2012

It's a great chance to meet your Missouri legislators and elected officials, and introduce them to the bike/ped river crossing and the Katy Trail.

The ride this year will leave from the front steps of the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City and go across the new Pat Jones Pedestrian/Bicycle Lane across the Missouri River to the North Jefferson Katy Trailhead.

For Legislators and Participants:

• If you are bringing your own bicycle, you are welcome to join us at 12:30pm April 2nd with your bicycle and helmet (we appreciate a call or email 816-695-6736 or director@mobikefed.org) to let us know you're coming--it helps with planning--but it's not required)
• Bicycles will be provided to legislators and staff who need them (you must reserve your bicycle by March 30th at noon by calling 816-695-6736 or emailing director@mobikefed.org)
• Planned schedule:
  • 12:30-1:00pm - Introductions and short program at the North Capitol area
  • 1:00pm-2:00pm - Ride/Walk to and across the new pedestrian/bicycle path to the North Jefferson Trailhead (approx. 3 miles from Capitol Steps to the North Jefferson Katy Trailhead--about 20 minutes easy riding). Points of interest:
    • Beautiful hiking trails at the north riverfront
    • Once arriving at the North Jefferson Trailhead (3 miles), those who wish to continue their ride on the Katy Trail are invited to do so--you can ride long or short, according to your schedule.
    • 12:00-5:00pm - pedicab rides available between the Capitol and the bridge
• Snacks and water will be available at the Capitol steps and at the North Jefferson Trailhead
• The route is about three miles each way, six miles total (map)

The ride is free, but if you're planning to come, please contact director@mobikefed.org so we'll have an idea of how many are planning to ride. 

Supporting businesses:

• Chris Gerli of City Cycling Tours (Forest Park, St. Louis) has been kind enough to provide free bicycles for legislators & staff to ride.
• Tricycle Transit Company of Kansas City is providing the free pedicab rides between the Capitol and the bridge between noon and 5:00pm.

This event is presented by Missouri State Parks, MoDOT, and the Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation.
