Talk with Senator Claire McCaskill with this week in Concordia, Trenton, Maryville
This month Senator McCaskill is holding several town hall meetings to get input on the federal budget and financial situation. First up are Concordia, Trenton, and Maryville, with more to come.
This is a great opportunity for us to speak up for bicycling and walking as part of the solution to several big national problems. In particular, it's important for Senator McCaskill to hear about the connection between federal transportation policy and local conditions in Missouri city's and towns. Many of our trails and bike lanes have been possible because of competitive federal grants.
1. Transportation. Making it easier and safer to walk and bicycling for transportation eases congestion and gives Missourians more options for getting to work, school, errands, etc.
2. Economy. Bicycling, walking, and transit projects built as part of the federal economic stimulus have proven to have greater return on investment than highway and other projects. Bike/ped/transit projects created more jobs per dollar spent.
3. Health. Getting more people into active lifestyles lowers Missouri's high rates of obesity and diabetes, and ultimately lowers health care costs for everyone.
4. Environment. Making it easier and safer for people to bike, walk, or take transit lowers automobile emissions like ozone and carbon dioxide, improving the air quality for all Missourians.

Tues, Aug 10th, 5:00 – 6:00 PM, Trenton
Wed, Aug 11, 10:30 – 11:30 AM, Maryville
