Recreational Trails Program--$17.5 million in projects in Missouri

As part of our preparations for the National Bike Summit in Washington, DC, next week we have been looking at all the federal funding sources for bicycle and pedestrian projects in Missouri--including Transportation Enhancements, Safe Routes to School, Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CMAQ), and the Recreational Trails Program.

Since 1991, the Recreational Trails Program has provided $12.8 million in federal funding for trails projects in Missouri, combined with almost $5 million in other funding for a total of $17.5 million in trails projects.

The program can fund all types of trails and related projects--from paved biking trails to mountain biking trails, hiking trails, snowshoeing trails, ATV trails, paddling trails, equestrian trails, and others.

You can find out more about the program here and search the entire list of projects that have been funded nationwide here.

The Missouri State Parks Department runs Missouri's Recreational Trails Program.  They generally have a round of funding every year, and when the application period is open you can find out more information here.
