Columbia elementary school staff 'Walk Across America'

Teachers and staff at Rock Bridge Elementary in Columbia took on a walking challenge this year.  According to the Columbia Daily Tribune:

The staff at Rock Bridge Elementary School won’t be able to forget nurse Jan Verslues when she moves to Parkade Elementary School next year — all they’ll have to do is look down at their pedometers.

The staff received the devices through a grant this year to count their steps as they took part in a “Walk Across America” challenge, organized by Verslues.

In years past, the school, which tries to focus on health, has held a “Biggest Loser” competition for the staff, but this year Verslues wanted to do something different.

“The Biggest Loser is so focused on losing weight, and we wanted to focus on general healthy lifestyle,” Verslues said. “Walking is something that’s fit for everyone. If you’re in good shape or not, everyone can do it.”

Starting in January, the staff started tracking its steps while Verslues tracked everyone’s mileage and charted the course along a map of the United States.
