Submitted by Brent Hugh on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 1:20pm
Daphne Greenlee of Safe Kids Springfield gave an excellent presentation about the Safe Routes to School Work that Safe Kids Springfield, along with a whole coalition of other area groups and organizations, has been doing.
Over the past nine years, Safe Kids Springfield has been involved in projects like:
- Organizing International Walk to School Day events at area schoools
- Research into behavior and interests of schoolchildren, parents, drivers
- Special projects to improve school zone and pedestrian markings and signs
- Projects to improve sidewalks and crosswalks
- Year-around programs to promote safety walking and biking to school
- Community partnerships
Here are the resources from Daphne's presentation:
- Download Daphne's powerpoint presentation (PDF format)
- Download the school walking survey, for parents, that Safe Kids has used (sample letter for parents and response form, Word DOC format)
- Download the school pedestrian safety audit, for a school committee or group to complete, used by Safe Kids (Word DOC format)
