Act Now to Preserve Crucial Bicycle and Pedestrian Funding
If your congressman is Sam Graves (northwest Missouri) or Billy Long (southwest Missouri) you need to act now. Reps Long and Graves are on the Congressional Transportation Committee and will vote on an amendment to committee chairman John Mica's proposed transportation bill. The amendment restores very important and highly effective funding used for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and programs.
As of now, without the amendment, Safe Routes to School, a funding program that builds sidewalks near elementary schools, teaches kids how to bike safely, funds walking school bus programs and many more great things, is gone. Transportation Enhancements, a program that has built miles of bike/ped trails and funded many of the MoBikeFed's programs, is also gone.
The Petri-Johnson amendment will restore these sources of funding. And your congressman holds the key. Please contact them now.
Please, if you live in either of these districts, act now by clicking this link and sending a message to your congressman: http://www.capwiz.com/lab/issues/alert/?alertid=60927571&PROCESS=Take+Ac...
Feel free to make a call to your local office as well.
The rest of you Missourians are not off the hook. You should also contact your representatives in Washington. Please contact your representatives also: http://www.capwiz.com/lab/issues/alert/?alertid=60927571&PROCESS=Take+Action
Please take action immediately. It is likely that the vote will happen on Thursday. The transportation bill could come out of the committee and onto the house floor in a matter of days.
Thanks to everyone for supporting this absolutely vital source of funding for Missouri's bicycling and pedestrian projects.
